Recommended Public Bus in Makassar: How To Reach Rantepao, Toraja
Not a few travelers will continue their trip by a public bus to Toraja after arrive at Makassar Sultan Hasanuddin airport. Therefore, I will guide you step by step how to do that?
Step 1: How To Book The Bus Ticket
There are a few bus companies which could take you to Toraja but I just recommend you 2 of them: Primadona Bus and Manggala Trans Bus. The office of these buses are not so far from the airport.
- Primadona Bus
The bus always leaves around 21.00 PM. There is No Day Bus available.

- Manggala Trans Bus
The bus usually leaves around 09.00 AM (except on Sunday) and 21.000 PM.
Address in Makassar: Nusa Tamalanrea Indah and Komplex Ruko Puri No. 17 (Depan M-Tos)

Before you book the bus ticket, make sure you tell the bus agent:
- Your name
- Rantepao: destination of your trip
- The name of your hotel in Toraja
- Terminal Regional Daya: a place where the bus picks you up in Makassar for your trip to Rantepao
OR
-To the Bus Office: you could go there directly where you wait for the bus and pay the ticket.
Noted:
- Ticket bus could be paid later when you already on the bus but make sure you already make an agreement in advance.
- If you stay in Misiliana hotel, Rosalina Homestay or in Pias Poppies Hotel (recommended accommodation), the bus can drop off you directly in front of these hotels before downtown Rantepao.
Step 2: Terminal Daya or Bus Office
After arrive at Makassar Sultan Hasanuddin airport, take a taxi and ask a driver to take you to Terminal Daya, around 9.2 km from airport OR to the Bus Office.

Use the google map to see the distance between Airport and Bus Office IF you decide to go there.
Additional Information
The trip to Rantepao by public bus takes around 9-10 hours, passes 6 Bugis districts. The bus stops (2-3 times) in Maros regency where passengers buy some food, mineral water. Next stop in Enrekang regency for having lunch/dinner and drinking coffee/tea.
If you feel comfortable with a Private Car for the trip from Makassar to Toraja, here are things you should consider:
- make sure you leave for Toraja in the morning so that you could enjoy some various views on the way.
- you could still visit one of tourism spots around Makassar, such as Karst Area in Rammamg-Rammang (recommended).
